India’s ambition to become a global artificial intelligence (AI) powerhouse received a massive financial boost this week, as domestic powerhouses and global tech giants unveiled multi-billion-dollar  investments in the country, through the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, held from February 16 to 21.

The announcements collectively span sovereign AI factories, renewable-powered data centers, advanced GPU deployments, and enterprise-scale AI rollouts, positioning India as a strategic hub for both domestic and global AI workloads.

TL;DR

  • Reliance Industries and Jio to invest $109.8 billion in AI and data infrastructure over seven years
  • Adani Group commits $100 billion for renewable-powered AI data centers
  • L&T and NVIDIA to build India's largest sovereign, gigawatt-scale AI factory
  • Microsoft plans $50 billion AI expansion across the Global South

Reliance Industries And Jio’s $110 Billion AI And Data Infrastructure Expansion

Reliance Industries and its telecom arm Jio are spearheading India’s AI expansion with a $109.8 billion investment planned over the next seven years.

Chairman Mukesh Ambani framed the initiative as a mission to democratize computing power. ā€œOur resolve is clear: make intelligence as ubiquitous as connectivity,ā€ he said, referencing the company’s telecom disruption strategy from 2016 that slashed data prices and broadened digital access nationwide.

Reliance is developing multi-gigawatt AI-ready data centers, including a Jamnagar facility expected to add more than 120 megawatts of capacity in the second half of this year.

The broader objective is to build a fully integrated AI stack within India, spanning infrastructure, platforms, and applications.

Adani Group’s $100 Billion Renewable-Powered AI Data Center Strategy

The Adani Group announced a $100 billion commitment through 2035 to build renewable energy-powered AI data centers.

The company said the investment could catalyze an additional $150 billion across related sectors such as server manufacturing and sovereign cloud platforms. Together, this is projected to create a $250 billion AI infrastructure ecosystem in India over the next decade.

"The world is entering an Intelligence Revolution more profound than any previous Industrial Revolution. Nations that master the symmetry between energy and compute will shape the next decade. India is uniquely positioned to lead," said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group.

"India will not be a mere consumer in the AI age. We will be the creators, the builders and the exporters of intelligence and we are proud to be able to participate in that future."

The move builds on AdaniConnex's existing 2-gigawatt national data center, expanding toward a 5-gigawatt target.

By aligning AI expansion with renewable energy, Adani is integrating sustainability into large-scale digital infrastructure development.

L&T And NVIDIA To Build India’s Largest Sovereign AI Factory

Larsen and Toubro is partnering with NVIDIA under the IndiaAI Mission to establish a sovereign, scalable, gigawatt-scale AI factory.

The collaboration integrates L&T’s engineering and infrastructure execution capabilities with NVIDIA GPUs, CPUs, networking technologies, accelerated storage platforms, and the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software stack. The initiative is designed to support production-grade AI workloads across manufacturing, energy, financial services, healthcare, and public services.

The venture plans to scale NVIDIA GPU clusters at its Chennai campus up to 30 megawatts and add a new 40 megawatt data center in Mumbai. Built as ā€œsovereign by design,ā€ the infrastructure will allow critical data and AI models to be built and deployed within India while remaining interoperable with global ecosystems.

Microsoft’s $50 Billion AI Push Across The Global South

Microsoft announced it is on pace to invest $50 billion by the end of the decade to expand AI capabilities across countries in the Global South, referring to developing and emerging economies.

The company had previously unveiled $17.5 billion in AI investments in India last year, reinforcing its long-term bet on one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.

The new commitment underscores India’s central role in Microsoft’s broader strategy to extend AI infrastructure beyond mature markets.

Yotta’s $2 Billion NVIDIA-Powered AI Supercluster

Yotta Data Services committed more than $2 billion to build one of Asia’s largest AI computing hubs  and NVIDIA Blackwell HGX B300 superclusters using over 20,000 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra chips.

The chips are expected to be deployed by August. Half of them will be used over four years to power NVIDIA’s DGX AI cloud service, which supports Indian IT majors such as Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys.

The AI supercluster will be deployed in New Delhi, with additional capacity from Mumbai. Yotta is also preparing for a potential IPO and aims to raise up to $1.2 billion to fund expansion.

Tata Group And TCS Partner With OpenAI

Tata Consultancy Services signed OpenAI as the first customer of its HyperVault data center business under OpenAI’s global Stargate initiative.

The partnership begins with 100 megawatts of AI-ready capacity and has the potential to scale up to 1 gigawatt over time. The infrastructure is designed to run OpenAI’s most advanced models locally, reducing latency while meeting data residency, security, and compliance requirements.

ā€œThis deep collaboration between OpenAI and Tata Group marks a major milestone in India’s vision to become a global leader in AI. We are pleased to partner with OpenAI to create state-of-the-art AI infrastructure in India. This is a unique opportunity for OpenAI and TCS to transform industries. Together we will skill India’s youth and empower them to succeed in the AI era,ā€ said N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons.

Beyond infrastructure, Tata Group plans to deploy ChatGPT Enterprise across hundreds of thousands of TCS employees, marking one of the largest enterprise AI rollouts globally and embedding AI deeper into core business workflows.

With cumulative commitments running into hundreds of billions of dollars, the summit signaled that India is rapidly evolving from a fast-growing digital economy into a global AI leader.
