Ashwini Vaishnaw Apologises India AI Summit Mismanagement

India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam saw overwhelming crowds, long queues and operational disruptions, prompting Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to issue a public apology.

More than 70,000 attendees reportedly, far exceeding expectations. Tight security arrangements ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit led to extended waiting times, with founders, exhibitors and global delegates standing in long queues for hours.

Several participants raised concerns over poor Wi-Fi connectivity, mobile network disruptions and repeated registration issues. Some exhibitors alleged that they were asked to vacate stalls during VIP movement, with at least one startup founder claiming AI wearables went missing during the process.

Addressing the situation on Day 2, Vaishnaw described the summit as the world’s largest AI gathering and acknowledged the inconvenience caused. He said arrangements have since been stabilised and confirmed the creation of a 24-hour “war room” to monitor operations and improve attendee experience in real time.

Co-founder Gokul Namakkal Arulsanmugam highlighted the limits of current robotics: "That's how limited the robotics technology is," he said, noting that even simple tasks, like fitting a bolt, can challenge machines. CynLr’s approach mimics human brain-like instincts, allowing CyRo to handle unfamiliar parts, varying surfaces, and reflective materials with ease.

The robot is already generating industry interest. CynLr is running a two-year pilot with Audi, has partnered with a leading semiconductor equipment maker, and is in talks with luxury car brands. Experts say CyRo could also impact warehouse automation and labs where human contamination must be avoided.

India Contributes 33% More Data To ChatGPT Than US, Says Amitabh Kant

India is contributing 33% more data to ChatGPT than the United States, G20 Sherpa and former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Tuesday, urging the country to accelerate indigenous AI development through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).

Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Kant stated that while artificial intelligence is poised to disrupt every sector, its evolution must rest on three pillars: accessibility, affordability, and accountability. He cautioned that without a DPI framework, AI risks deepening global inequality.

Referring to large language models such as ChatGPT developed by OpenAI, Kant noted that India and the Global South are playing a critical role in training these systems. He argued that AI must move beyond English-centric models and become natively multilingual to serve diverse populations.

Kant advocated replicating India’s DPI-led development model in AI, suggesting the creation of a digital public identity layer over which private innovation can thrive. He warned that concentrated AI investment without equitable access could create a highly unequal society, stressing that the true objective should be social transformation across health, education, and agriculture in the Global South.
