What Is Multimedia?

Multimedia is a big word for something straightforward. It just means "a bunch of things put together." Multimedia is fundamental as the Web moved from a primarily textual layout to a graphical one. Many sites were competing to become multimedia sites with a mixture of text, sound, images and videos. One of the first things that came about was animated gifs. These were small images that could be animated to represent movement or action. Technically speaking, a video (several images run in succession) with sound qualifies as multimedia. From Google Maps to online banking, websites are becoming more and more interactive. This trend is not limited to the Web; mobile applications have evolved into a new interactive environment where users can interact with their smartphones and tablets through gestures or voice commands.
