What Is Information and Content Exchange (ICE)?
Information and Content Exchange (ICE) isn't just a way to make your content accessible by other websites and online platforms—it's also a way to make it profitable. ICE is an XML-based standard protocol that uses client/server architecture for content syndication via the Internet. It allows both the content originator and receiver to communicate with an agreed-upon language and sometimes (if applicable) at an agreed-upon price. This means that you can send your content out into the world and make money off of it simultaneously! ICE is a B2B asset exchange. It's primarily used for publishing content but also e-commerce. And, as the name suggests, it's cold freezing. The best part about ICE is that it's automated. That means you don't have to think about it too hard or do much more than type in your information and let ICE do its thing. It also allows publishers to focus more time and energy on creating premium content rather than spending time on account management, invoicing, and collecting payments. For readers, accessing premium content through a single platform means no more hopping between websites to find the information they need. When communicating with a server, you want your message to be as clear and concise as possible. So why would you want to use a complex formatting system that relies on manual formatting? It's like trying to explain your feelings to someone: you don't just say, "I feel like this". You say something like, "I feel really excited because I'm going on a date with the person I've been crushing on for months." You use specific and relevant words so the receiver can understand precisely what it is you mean. With XML metatags, the sender and receiver can define their message format without worrying about manual formatting requirements or complications—you can just focus on what matters: getting your point across!
