Cybercriminals are bad because they seek to access your system to steal your personal data, flood you with advertisements, or even hold your computer for ransom. Criminals on the Internet are like robbers who attempt every entrance to your home before giving up and breaking into it through the pipes (eww). Close all blinds and curtains to keep prying eyes away from your computer (at home) (install antivirus software). It would be best if you also were wary of the links you open and the files you download from unfamiliar sources (phishing scams) online. But despite taking all these measures, it is still possible for cybercriminals to breach the system. Hashtags are helpful for just such a purpose. Cybersecurity analysts use hashtags like you to organize and track social media posts. For example, the hashtag #malware can be used to spread information and updates about a new strain of malware, a type of dangerous software that can damage your computer. Keep up with the latest security dangers and learn how to defend yourself by following the relevant hashtags. To sum up, a cyber threat is any risk to your computer or network that could jeopardise your data or impede your ability to use the internet. It's essential to be aware of the various shapes these dangers might take, from viruses and malware to phishing attacks and ransomware (when a cybercriminal holds your computer for ransom). Protect yourself and your computer from these dangers by always using good judgment when browsing the internet and being aware of any hashtags mentioning cybersecurity.

Carrier IQ

If your phone company knows more about you than you do, it's probably Carrier IQ. Carrier IQ is a company that provides analytics software to various telecom providers. They've developed programs that offer information about smartphone users to cellphone carriers, like what apps they use, how often they use them, how long they spend on them, and even where the user is using them. The problem with this is that there needs to be a way for an average user to know whether or not her carrier has installed these programs on her phone. Even if she knows that her page uses the Carrier IQ program, she cannot opt out of it or stop it from collecting data about her activities and movements. The fact that this kind of information is being collected without our knowledge or consent raises serious privacy concerns—yet we have no say in whether or not our carriers can do this. Privacy advocates are up in arms over the Carrier IQ scandal, which involves a company collecting performance data on smartphone users. Carrier IQ gathers performance data, tracking and logging what users do on their phones. This can include calls made, texts sent, and emails received. While this is not necessarily an invasion of privacy in terms of content (e.g., Carrier IQ does not have access to the actual content of phone calls), it does present a risk to user privacy because it allows third parties access to information about whom you called or texted, whether you're using your phone to browse the web or send emails, etc. The issue came to light when reports revealed that Carrier IQ had collected information about users' phone activity without their knowledge or consent. It was reported that some phones were even sending data from users' text messages directly to Carrier IQ without permission from the device's owner!

Electronically Stored Information (ESI)

Electronic information can be saved in different forms but is often held as a file. ESI describes any electronically stored information relevant to a case or matter. Electronically stored information (ESI) is electronic communication created and communicated in digital form. The explicit nature of ESI can make it more vulnerable to being lost or compromised than non-electronically stored information. In the case of litigation, a party’s ability to preserve such data, potentially holding a forensic investigation expert to the burden of identifying and maintaining data that has been deleted, may be crucial to their success. Not only may this data prove helpful for supporting client claims and defenses, but it may also be necessary as evidence under Federal Rules of Civil Procedure Rule 34. Electronic discovery is the process by which litigators gain access to electronic data relevant to a legal case. Usually, ESI refers to electronic data obtained by legal teams for litigation purposes. Still, there are other types of electronic discovery, such as data stored on flash drives or external hard drives, texts or emails stored on smartphones, social media interactions and other online documents. Electronic discovery, or ESI, is acquired and frozen by legal staff in prosecuting a case. ESI can be stored on digital media devices and computer systems belonging to witnesses, lawyers and suspects. ESI can include many forms of digital evidence, such as emails, social media archives and text messages. The methods employed by legal staff in seeking this information are known as electronic data discovery or EDD; the amendment provides guidelines for judges regarding initiating or presiding over trials based on electronically stored information. Judges must determine whether ESI warrants a garnishment. With all of the documents, files, and emails that are easily accessible in a digital form, legal counsel can obtain evidence with relative ease. However, they must outline a plan for using the ESI in court. Failure to draft a scenario could result in a defendant being awarded or what they ask for in terms of monetary damages.

Year 2000 Problem (Y2K)

The Year 2000 issue (or Y2K issue) was the ultimate computer glitch. The issue may have occurred because the software was written with only two-digit year fields instead of four-digit year fields. #Y2K #computers You have to understand that programmers constantly looked for ways to reduce the amount of space used in their programs because memory was so expensive. This was accomplished in several ways: reducing the year field from four digits to two. They would therefore write "22" instead of "2022." The problem was that computers would mistakenly read the year 2000 if the calendar rolled over from 1999 to 2000. This flaw could lead to all sorts of issues, as the program was designed around the idea that two digits would always represent the year. There was a widespread concern as the year 2000 drew near that many computer systems would fail or crash, leading to widespread disruption and chaos. As a result, there was a large-scale initiative to prevent further damage, known as Y2K remediation. Worldwide, businesses and government agencies spent billions fixing the problems caused by the year 2000. To ensure their computer systems would continue functioning correctly after January 1, 2000, they hired programmers to go through the procedures, update the software, replace the old hardware, and test everything. It was a race against the clock, and many people were afraid that everything would stop when the clock struck midnight on December 31, 1999. The Y2K problem, however, became a "Y2K-not-so-much" problem due to the efforts of millions of people worldwide. Most systems continued to function normally after 2000, and the few that did experience problems had minor setbacks. The Y2K problem was ultimately more of a "Y2K-not-so-much" issue. Though problems did arise, they were typically little and straightforward to resolve.
