If all the hashes agree, you may be sure that the data is exactly as it was when it was first hashed. The technical term "Hash Function" is relevant here. A mathematical operation called a "hash function" produces a fixed-length string of characters called a "hash" from input data. It's crucial to remember that hash functions are deterministic, meaning that the same input will always result in the same output. Because the resulting hash will be entirely different if the data changes, even little, they are ideal for usage in Merkle Trees. The technical term "Merkle Proof" should also be kept in mind. A Merkle Proof is a small amount of data demonstrating that a certain piece of data is present in a Merkle Tree.
