What Is Accelerated Hub Architecture (AHA)?

It's a chipset design that uses one dedicated bus to transfer data between the two main parts of the chipset: the memory controller hub (MCH) and the I/O controller hub (ICH). The MCH connects to the CPU via the memory and video ports on the motherboard, which supports the upper portion of the board. The ICH connects to the lower part of the board, which includes connectivity ports such as peripheral component interconnect (PCI), universal serial bus (USB), local area network (LAN), integrated drive electronics (IDE), and sound. The AHA is the architecture that's used in the 800-series family of the chipset. The most prominent feature of this series is a dedicated bus that connects the MCH and ICH portions of the chipset at 266 Mbps, twice the bandwidth of the previous architecture's 133 Mbps PCI bus.
