This helps them simulate and test their products under different conditions and track the performances in real-time with the help of IoT sensors, along with predicting problems before production begins.
Over the last few years, the interest in this technology has picked up, leading to companies engaged in the industry realigning their offerings.
Recently, industry giant Siemens came out with a range of announcements aimed at strengthening its capabilities in industrial digital twin technology.
Now Capgemini, another industry leader, is here with an announcement that’s set to enhance the application and use of digital twins for enterprises.
So, what did the company announce and how is it going to help enterprises? Let’s explore!
What Was Announced?
- In a press release issued on Capgemini’s website, the company conveyed it was acquiring Unity’s Digital Twin Professional Services arm. As per the announcement, the deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2024.
- Unity, a world-leading provider for creating and growing real-time 3D (RT3D) content, will help propel the implementation of RT3D visualization software aimed at benefiting the industrial application of digital twins.
- As per Unity’s website, this service helps businesses “leverage Unity’s technology for digital transformation with connected, dynamic digital twins that unlock and unleash the full power of data for better decision-making.”
- The agreement will see Unity’s team join Capgemini to form one of the largest pools of Unity enterprise developers in the world.
This deal builds on a previous tie-up both companies had with each other, which was announced on August 3, 2022, which was made to “help organizations everywhere explore and seize business opportunities and benefits of immersive and metaverse experiences across industries.”
- Furthermore, both companies have worked together on numerous projects for major global companies, which even includes developing an immersive simulator for a fire fighting vehicle manufacturer to train its operators.

How Will This Move Help Businesses?
The agreement will enable Capgemini to scale high-demand, sector-specific solutions, particularly pertaining to automotive, consumer products and retail, energy and utilities, aerospace and defense, healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing and industrial products.
These offerings could include tailored solutions for simulations (a digital version of an asset designed to provide real-time insights based on real-world scenarios), human-machine interfaces (building interactive in-vehicle infotainment experiences) and Immersive training (enabling the use of interactive 3D or AR/VR in training sessions).
According to the press release, the agreement "will extend the reach and scale of Unity’s software through Capgemini, allowing more organizations to further push the boundaries of this technology through the acceleration, adoption, and application of RT3D to build and scale immersive experiences.”

What Did Stakeholders Say About The Move?
- William Rozé, CEO of Capgemini Engineering and Group Executive Board member, said, “Unity’s real-time 3D technology is the unequivocal industry standard for visualization across platforms and devices. As such, it is a key component that will impact the value-chain of intelligent products – from R&D to manufacturing, operations, and services.”
- [Contd.] “This new agreement with Unity will allow Capgemini to embed 3D visualization software capabilities into our end-to-end business transformation services, to help clients realize the immediate and longer-term benefits of intelligent industry.”
- Jim Whitehurst, CEO, Unity, said, “Unity has reached a point in its growth where the opportunity for us in the enterprise market has outpaced our ability to scale fast enough to meet client demand.”
- “With its scale and breadth of services – from design and engineering to business transformation and data expertise, Capgemini is well placed to unleash the full potential of Unity technology for enterprise clients across industries with specific use cases.”
Do you think Capgemini’s move will help it gain a better market share in the digital twins and digital transformation industry? Will the move encourage competing companies to make similar moves?
