The hardware writes protect switch is a physical switch on the hard disk drive (HDD), allowing users to disable reporting to the hard disk. The software writes protection feature will enable users to restrict access to files from being altered or deleted by accidentally pressing the F1 key during the Windows startup process. This feature works only with MS-DOS operating systems but not with Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 using techniques because they do not support MS-DOS commands.
