What Is Windows Media Center (WMC)?

WMC is the best thing to happen to your living room since the remote control. Do you know what we're talking about, that big box that took up most of your TV stand, with all those wires coming out of it and that clunky remote control? Well, WMC is here to save the day. Windows Media Center (WMC) is a comprehensive media solution developed by Microsoft to bridge the living room media environment to the PC experience. Through WMC, users can watch and record live TV shows, play music, and other media saved on the hard drive or other attached storage devices. It was included in the high-end version of Windows Vista and Windows 7 but existed as early as Windows XP Media Center Edition. The application is also effortless to use. You may use it as a remote control for your computer or as an alternative interface for watching DVDs or listening to CDs you can even utilize it as a backup tool if you want to store your files on an external hard drive seamlessly connected via USB cable instead of keeping them directly on your internal hard drive, where they might be lost in case something terrible happens, like a power outage or computer crash due to virus attack etc. Windows Media Center was a version of Windows that included the Windows Media Center application. The software was primarily designed for use with a TV tuner card to watch television programs on your computer (by connecting it to your TV through the tuner card). Still, WMC also included other features such as DVD playback (with support for DVD-Video, DVD-Audio and CD music playback), picture slideshows, MP3 music files, audio CD playback from a CD drive or an attached home stereo system via line-in/line-out jacks or Bluetooth remote desktop ability for controlling other computers remotely; screensavers and simple games. Web Services Security (WS Security)

If you're a web developer, you've heard of WS-Security. It's one of those things that is often just there, and you don't realize how important it is until you need it. WS-Security relies on WS-Trust and WS-Policy to provide authentication, message integrity checks and encryption capabilities for secure communication between two parties. Web services security (WS Security) is a specification that defines how security measures are implemented in web services to protect them from external attacks. Microsoft, IBM and BEA Systems developed the Web Services Security standard in 2004 to define an interoperable framework for message security within SOAP-based web services. The bar provides a set of XML-based bindings to support Transport Layer Security (TLS) as an underlying security protocol for secure communication over HTTP or any other transport layer. Web services are excellent, but they could be better. That's just the way we like it. We love that Web services are independent of any hardware and software implementations. We can easily use them to connect our applications, no matter what infrastructure they run on. We must be flexible enough to accommodate new security mechanisms and provide alternative tools if an approach is unsuitable. As SOAP-based messages traverse multiple intermediaries, security protocols need to be able to identify fake nodes and prevent data interpretation at any nodes. So much work goes into making a web service secure: choosing digital signatures for non-repudiation and Kerberos for authentication while ensuring they're easy enough to implement so developers can get off the ground with them quickly.
