What Is Unity?
Unity is the best desktop GUI in existence. It's better than your desktop, and it's better than your mom. It has everything you need to get things done and nothing you don't. No clutter! No wasted space! Just the essentials: the taskbar, a few shortcuts, a clock that tells you what time it is (I wonder why you'd want to know that) and icons for all your most common applications. Unity is the default desktop GUI for Ubuntu, and it was developed by Canonical in 2010 to make Linux easier to use for new users. Unity's simple, intuitive design allows users to get up and running without much effort. It also has some familiarity with other desktops. For example, it uses the same file-management system as Windows or macOS, so people familiar with those systems will immediately understand how to use Unity. The other difference between Unity and other desktops is that it uses a top-down approach instead of left-to-right navigation like most other desktops use today. On top of this, there are no icons for files or folders anywhere on this desktop environment except in their respective folders. Hence, there is no need for a separate icon management program like those used with Windows XP or Vista because everything resides within its folder. Hence, there are no icons outside of these folders either! Unity is the name of a launcher used to access applications and other features on a computer. You can interact with Unity through the launcher interface as an end user. This interface houses icons for frequently used applications, providing quick and easy access. However, if you require a specific application that is not currently displayed in the launcher, Unity has got you covered. You can use the search feature to type in the application name you need. In doing so, you can access the desired application to get your work done efficiently and effectively.
