What Is Surge Protector?
A surge protector is a lifesaver.'What is a surge protector?' is probably a question you might be asking yourself. It protects equipment against power surges and voltage spikes while blocking voltage over a safe threshold (approximately 120 V). When an entry exceeds 120 V, a surge protector shorts to ground voltage or stops it. Without a surge protector, anything higher than 120V can create component issues such as permanent damage, reduced lifespan of internal devices and burned wires. So why should you care? In short: because it's your stuff that's at risk! If your computer or other electronics get fried by an electrical surge, you'll have to replace them, which means money out of pocket. If you're invested in creating content for your business, you must protect it so that it doesn't go down in flames when something goes wrong with your internet connection or power supply. Like most people, you probably spend much time thinking about protecting your electronics. Have you ever considered protecting the people around you? We're talking about electrical surges, which lightning strikes and other natural phenomena can cause. Although rare, they can also be caused by faulty wiring in your home or office. Either way, electrical surges can fry your devices and make them unusable, and if there's one thing we all want to avoid, it has to buy new stuff! It's good to know that you can prevent this from occurring. One option is through a surge protector, a device that attaches to an outlet and protects all the devices plugged into it. A surge protector diverts excess electricity so it doesn't reach your equipment. Surge protectors are usually installed in communications structures, process control systems, power distribution panels, or other industrialized systems. Smaller versions are typically installed in electrical service entrances in office buildings and residences.
