This is analogous to a swarm of robots clogging up the internet's pipes, which would eventually bring the site to a grinding halt. There's more, though; stay with me. The botnet is a valuable asset to the attacker since it may be used to steal sensitive information such as passwords and financial data. A further twist is that the victim may be unaware that their infected computer is being used in a botnet attack.
