What Is GPRS Tunneling Protocols (GTP)?
GPRS Tunneling Protocols (GTP) is an Internet Protocol (IP) based protocol suite used to carry a general packet radio service (GPRS). It's also a protocol to tunnel through walls and ceilings, which is why it's called GTP. The GPRS Tunneling Protocol was created because people wanted to get their GPRS through walls and ceilings but needed the regular GPRS protocol. So they had a meeting and decided that they needed a new protocol that would allow them to tunnel through walls and ceilings while still using the general packet radio service. When you have a meeting like that and create something new, it's called "the birth of an innovation." This innovation was born out of necessity for people who wanted more than just the regular GPRS. GTP is the new way to travel. It allows you to stay connected while you're on the go. GTP can be used with Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP). GTP is the go-to standard for GPRS core networks. It can be used with UDP and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) stacks, making it more reliable and flexible than other protocols in its category. GTP was standardized within GSM-standard 9.60, and all versions of GTP use UDP for transportation. GTP is the protocol that allows packet-switched networks to communicate with others. It's a protocol for data transmission across networks, and it's been around for a long time. There are many differences between version 0 and version 1 of GTP. In version 0, the signaling and tunneling protocols are combined on a single port, whereas in version 1, they are split across two protocols: GTP-C and GTP-U. Version 1 was developed to support X.25 WAN communications, whereas version 0 may be used with TCP or UDP. Version 1 can only be used with UDP, whereas version 0 may be used with either TCP or UDP.
