What Is Store and Forward?
What's in a name? When you're sending data, it's not just about the destination. It's about what happens along the way. It is like delivering a box of goodies to the one that has ordered it. You hope it is not damaged and misplaced along the way. You need insurance, and this one sure acts like it. When you store and forward, your data travels from source to destination using a relay system that takes each piece of information, stores it in a buffer, and then forwards the data to its final destination. This means that even if there are no direct connections between the two nodes, and often there aren't, you can still rely on store and forward to get your information where it needs to go. The store and the forward process are like a game of telephone but with computers. It's where the message is sent from one computer to another across a network. The first computer stores the message in its memory and then forwards it to the next computer. The second computer then stores the message in its memory and delivers it to a third. And so forth until the message reaches its destination. This is an essential part of modern communications because it enables data connectivity and transmission even when there isn't a direct connection between two nodes (i.e., computers). You may have heard of store and forward. It's what happens when you send a message to someone, and they don't get it immediately. You tried to call your friend on their cell phone, but they didn't answer. You left a voicemail but realized they were at work and couldn't get back to you until the next day. So you called them again and left another message with your number in case they wanted to call back!
