What Is Brand Monitoring?
Did you know that your brand is out there? I'm not just talking about your product or service but the idea of your brand itself. It's not just a logo or slogan but what people think when they hear your name or see your product. So if someone sees you and thinks, "That's a nice looking shirt," that's great, but what about when they see you and think, "Oh yeah, I love those guys." That's where brand monitoring comes in. Brand monitoring is the process of keeping tabs on how people view your brand—and using that information to improve how it looks and feels to everyone around it. Brand monitoring is essential to any business analytics process because it allows you to gain insight into your company, products, brand, and anything else explicitly connected to your business. Regarding brand monitoring, two things matter most: reputation and reception. It can also be used for competitive intelligence. The information collected from monitoring can be used to make strategic decisions about new product development, advertising campaigns, pricing decisions, customer service initiatives and more. Brand monitoring is like being a modern-day Sherlock Holmes. You're looking for clues about what people say about you and your competitor's brands, then using those clues to determine how to react. The key to brand monitoring is being strategic: you've got to quickly determine what information is worth investigating further and what can be ignored. The goal is more than knowing what people think and how they feel. For example, let's say you notice someone is tweeting about how much they love x company. That could mean one of two things: either they're talking about the brand itself, or they're talking about something else entirely (like their favorite TV show). Once you've figured that out, you can either focus on making sure that everyone knows how great your product is or go back and look closer at what people were saying specifically and see if you missed anything.
