What Is Storage Networking?
You're probably familiar with the concept of networking. What is storage networking? Storage networking is a fantastic thing. It's what makes it possible to share one or more storage resources on a network in an IT environment, where a single storage server can provide storage capacity to multiple users simultaneously. Storage networking is a collective process of interconnecting external storage resources and devices over a network to all connected computers/nodes. It allows you to send and receive data to and from the shared storage resources, enabling you to store and retrieve data from the network when needed. Storage networking also allows you to set up networked storage to enable data replication across sites in a disaster. Networking storage will allow you to set up an infrastructure that provides access from anywhere on the network. You can set up a storage server on your network and download data from the server when needed. With this setup, you can access your data from anywhere on the network, allowing you to work remotely. Storage networking is all about getting you the needed info when needed. When it's not there, we'll have to try again later. Storage area networks (SAN), network-attached storage (NAS), fiber channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and redundant array on independent disks (RAID) are just a few ways in which storage networking happens. Think about it: if you have many computers that need access to lots of data, like in an office, it's difficult for everyone to share one server. It would be much easier if each computer had its hard drive and could access the data! That's where storage networking comes into play: it allows you to connect multiple drives so that each computer can access its portion (or "slice") of storage space.
