What Is Network Performance Test?
So, imagine you're a superhero, and your superpower is sending data through the internet at lightning speed. But before you can save the day and share all that excellent data with the world, you must ensure your network is up to snuff. This is where network performance testing comes in! It's like a secret identity check to ensure all your powers are working correctly. Like Batman checks his batarangs and Wonder Woman checks her lasso, you need to test your network to ensure it's running smoothly. There are a few different network performance tests, but they all have the same goal: to measure how well your network can handle different types of traffic. For example, you might test how well your network can handle many users accessing it simultaneously (this is called "concurrent user testing") or you might try how well your network can take large files sent over it (called "throughput testing"). One of the most common tools for network performance testing is called "iperf." It can measure things like bandwidth, delay, and jitter. Bandwidth is like the size of the pipeline that data flows through. Delay is like how long it takes for data to travel from point A to point B. And jitter is like how smooth the data flow is. Another tool that's often used is "ping." It's like a sonar for your network. It sends out a "ping" and waits for a "pong" to come back. The time it takes for the pong to come back is called "latency," and it can tell you how fast your network is. So, in short, Network Performance Testing is like a superhero's secret identity check, where you test your network to ensure, it's running smoothly and handling different types of traffic, such as concurrent users and throughput and measure parameters - like bandwidth, delay, jitter, and latency using tools like perf and ping.
