What Is Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)?
Studying how humans and computers interact is known as human-computer interaction or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). It's a hot field because it's applied to so many different areas of life—from air traffic control to nuclear processing to offices and computer gaming. HCI systems are easy, safe, effective and enjoyable. They make our lives easier because they allow us to do things faster and more efficiently than otherwise. That might seem tedious, but it doesn't have to be! For example, a sound HCI system might help us design an entire building in less time than drawing up one blueprint on paper. And that means we can start building sooner! But what about safety? Well, HCI systems are designed with your safety in mind as well. If you're using an HCI system for work or play, you'll know that it's intended for use by humans only—no bots allowed! Suppose something goes awry with the framework (which can happen every once). In that case, there are built-in safety mechanisms that will keep you secure until someone comes and fixes whatever is broken or turns off the framework entirely until it can be adequately repaired. Software engineering is like a carpenter. It's good at making things, but it doesn't care what they are or how they're used. HCI design is like a chef. It cares about what you're eating and how it will make you feel, but it's not as good at hammering together a table. HCI designers are always thinking about user experience. If you've ever had a bad user experience, you know how important it is to have the right people on your team. HCI designers consider usability and user experience goals for effective user interaction in every interactive computer system—because not all usability and user experience goals apply to every interactive computer system. HCI designers also consider potential contexts, tasks at hand and computer system users as they work to create an intuitive interface that makes your life easier!
