What Is Google Goggles?
It was something that Google shocked uwas s with when they came up with a brand new product that was straight out of a sci-fi movie. Google Goggles is the perfect way to search for information about anything you see with your eyes. You're on the go and need to know what a particular flower is called. Just take a picture. You're in an unknown city and want to know what that restaurant looks like. Take a picture. Do you need to find out where that person goes on their lunch break daily? Take a picture! Google Goggles uses computer image processing technology from Google that leverages Google's reputation for search and innovation, so you know it's going to be good. It can scan an image and look for visual cues ("landmarks") to generate relevant searches. This technology can also scan photos for bar codes and text of certain types, such as printed text on a photographed page. This program has been helpful in various commercial and educational projects. If you take a picture of something, Google Goggles will tell you exactly what it is. The Metropolitan Museum in New York has begun using Google Goggles to identify artworks using image recognition. The museum has collected works for over 150 years and has over 2 million objects. According to the New York Times, "The system does not currently include text descriptions or other information about each object." However, it's expected that the technology will eventually be able to provide such information, making it worthwhile for museums worldwide. Another component of this technology is the ability to scan a bar code on a product and receive accurate data on that product. This could be particularly beneficial for shoppers who want to know more about an item before they buy it.
