What Is Google Data Liberation Front?
There are many reasons to stop using Google you may be sick of having your search history tracked by a giant corporation, or you may want to try something new, like Bing or DuckDuckGo. Perhaps you just heard about "privacy" and want to try it for the first time. Whatever the reason, we understand that it can be tough to make a clean break from Google products—especially if you've got data stored in one of those products that you'd like to keep using elsewhere. That's why we started the Google Data Liberation Front! We're an engineering team at Google Inc. Tasked with making it easy for users to disentangle themselves from our products should they stop using them. It applies to any software product containing data consumers may want to export, such as Google Sheets or Gmail. We work daily to ensure those exports are simple and accessible no matter how much data you want to take with you. If you're a Google user, you might have noticed something missing from your account: the ability to leave. That's right—Google has held your data hostage for years, and it's time for them to let go. To make it easier for users to take their data with them when they switch services, Google has launched a new initiative called the Data Liberation Front (DLF). The DLF helps users export their data from all of Google's products, including Gmail, Google Drive, and others. Users can then import this data into other services without hassle or difficulty. The DLF is also working on integrating more features into its platform so that users can import and export their data quickly and seamlessly between multiple services. It means that soon you'll be able to take your data with you when you switch from Gmail to Outlook or Yahoo Mail—without any loss in functionality!
