What Is Federated Identity Manager (FIM)?

Federated Identity Manager (FIM) are the secret identities of super-heroes. They're a system that assists in managing identities and providing access to resources across different security domains and companies. Organizations can use FIMs to manage their users' identities and access privileges across multiple domains, such as Windows and Unix domains. This is done by assigning one identifier to each user, identifying them no matter where they log in or how many systems they use within the organization. An FIM also allows administrators to collect essential data about employees' usage of and preferences for their systems. This data can be used to make future system design decisions. An FIM also allows administrators to troubleshoot and resolve issues with users' systems remotely. For example, say there's an issue with an employee's login, such as incorrect credentials. If a company's system has an FIM, it can remotely troubleshoot the problem and determine that it is with the employee's computer or device, not the system itself. FIM is a fantastic way to give your organization's members access to services and subsystems without maintaining an extensive database of user credentials. FIM is also a great way to share your user databases across organizations. You have to transfer your identity records to the other organizations that agree to share their data. When dealing with an identity, it's all about the traits. FIM enables one user identity across multiple systems, allowing users to self-authenticate to access specific resources and services. Each organization subsystem user is self-authenticated to access specific resources and services. Instead of using separate authentication procedures for each subsystem, FIM enables one user identity for use across multiple systems. This person is referred to as a Federated Identity. If your phone company knows more about you than you do, it's probably Carrier IQ. Carrier IQ is a company that provides analytics software to various telecom providers. They've developed programs that offer information about smartphone users to cellphone carriers, like what apps they use, how often they use them, how long they spend on them, and even where the user is using them. The problem with this is that there needs to be a way for an average user to know whether or not her carrier has installed these programs on her phone. Even if she knows that her page uses the Carrier IQ program, she cannot opt out of it or stop it from collecting data about her activities and movements. The fact that this kind of information is being collected without our knowledge or consent raises serious privacy concerns—yet we have no say in whether or not our carriers can do this. Privacy advocates are up in arms over the Carrier IQ scandal, which involves a company collecting performance data on smartphone users. Carrier IQ gathers performance data, tracking and logging what users do on their phones. This can include calls made, texts sent, and emails received. While this is not necessarily an invasion of privacy in terms of content (e.g., Carrier IQ does not have access to the actual content of phone calls), it does present a risk to user privacy because it allows third parties access to information about whom you called or texted, whether you're using your phone to browse the web or send emails, etc. The issue came to light when reports revealed that Carrier IQ had collected information about users' phone activity without their knowledge or consent. It was reported that some phones were even sending data from users' text messages directly to Carrier IQ without permission from the device's owner!

SYN Attack

When an SYN attack hits, you'll know it. If your internet connection slows down or you can't connect to specific sites, there's a chance that an SYN attack is attacking you. SYN is "Synchronization," a type of request used in communication protocols like TCP/IP. For two or more computers to communicate, they must agree on how they will share. When you send something over the Internet - like a web page or an email message - it's called a packet. Before your computer can send any particular parcel of information, it has to tell all of the other computers on the network what information it wants to be sent and how quickly. It wants it sent back so that all other computers know how long to wait before sending their packets back. your computer sends out an "acknowledgment" message every time it receives one, saying, "I got that." So when you send something over the Internet, your computer sends an acknowledgment stating, "Yes! I got that!"
