What Is Electronics Disposal Efficiency (EDE)?
There are many talks today about the environment and how we're all going to save it. But what does that mean, exactly? How can you tell if you're doing your part? The answer is simple Electronics Disposal Efficiency (EDE). EDE is a performance metric used to evaluate the percentage of electronic disposals completed in an environmentally responsible way. It measures how well organizations dispose of their electronic equipment and waste once it is no longer in use or is depleted. EDE allows organizations to track their progress over time and determine how they can improve to achieve their goals for environmental sustainability. The EDE is a way to calculate how responsible your organization is for its electronic waste disposal. The total weight of the responsibly disposed equipment (such as through reuse or recycling) is divided by the total weight of all discarded equipment. A high EDE means that more of your company's electronics are being used than being dumped in a landfill, while a low EDE means that more of your company's electronics are being left in a landfill than reused or recycled. There is a range of options that Green Grid considers responsible. Still, most involve sending the electronic waste to an organization/entity certified and authorized to recycle or dispose of it properly. While this may seem like a relatively straightforward process, there are some things you should know before sending your e-waste off to its final resting place. First, you must ensure that the organization/entity you're donating your electronics is certified and authorized by Green Grid. Second, make sure they have a way of disposing of the waste in an environmentally friendly manner. Third, ensure they won't just sell what parts they can use and throw away the rest! Finally, try to find an organization/entity near you so that shipping isn't necessary—you'll be helping out your local community and keeping our planet healthy!
