What Is Data Fabric?
Data fabric is the new black, and just to set it straight is no longer just a trend. According to research firm Gartner, the data fabric architecture distributes data in such a way that it is governed the same whether it is on-premises, in the cloud, or at the edge of a network. In other words: it's fantastic. This means your data can quickly move seamlessly from your local server to an AWS instance. It also signifies that you don't have to stress about where your data lives. You can deploy it anywhere you want with the confidence that it will behave exactly as expected. Data fabrics are made of data. They're like quilts, except they're made of bits, not stitches. And they can be all different shapes and sizes because data is diverse! How do you make a data fabric? First, you must weave it with data integration and management policies that address specific data types. Then you need to ensure that an organization's data will always be readily available to authorized entities no matter where it resides. Finally, you must finish the project by providing that every piece fits together seamlessly so nobody dies. In the data world, a part of the fabric is like a quilt you made in high school. Home Ec. It's a blanket of information, with different squares of information stitched together to create more than the sum of its parts. A data fabric is an interoperable ecosystem where all the various systems and pieces work together to create something greater than their parts. It's a new way of considering how we use data and changing everything. Voila! You've got a beautiful new quilt made of bits and pieces from your company's many departments, and it's prepared whenever you need it!
