What Is Centralized Computing?
Computing that is centralized acts as the administrator for all of the machines. It's the big kahuna, the head honcho, the top dog, whatever you want to call it. All other computers must pay attention to what it has to say and carry out their instructions. Therefore, rather than each computer having its little brain and being responsible for making its own choices, they all rely on this one central computer to tell them what they should be doing. It's similar to how a conductor leads an orchestra; the central computer acts as the conductor, encouraging all other computers to collaborate and accomplish their goals. Why would we wish to engage in such behavior? In any case, it has the potential to be far more effective. Imagine the mayhem that would ensue if you were required to provide each member of an orchestra with their very own little score to perform from. It is much simpler to get everyone on the same page and create great music if you have a conductor leading the way. Similarly, having a central computer can assist all of the other computers in working together in a more effective manner and completing jobs sooner. It is also simpler to administer and maintain since you only have to focus on the primary computer in the network rather than worrying about updating and repairing each computer. Centralized computing has a few limitations you should be aware of now. To give just one example, it may represent a single point of failure. If the central computer were to crash, the entire operation would come to a grinding halt. It also has a lower level of security since if someone manages to break into the main computer. They can also access all of the other computers. In general, though, centralized computing can be a helpful approach to ensure that all of the machines in a network can operate together efficiently.
