What Is Cells In Frames (CIF)?

CIF also features explicit rate flow control, which means the sender can tell the receiver how much data they are sending at a time. This way, if too much or too little data is sent over the connection, it will automatically adjust itself so that both sides are satisfied. ATM is a shim. A shim is a layer of software that sits between your workstation and your legacy NIC card, allowing you to use an ATM without changing the hardware. It's like a piece of paper taped over your old, outdated hardware, but it works! The benefits of this approach are clear: since ATM is a software solution, it can be implemented across large networks with high scalability and flexibility. Since it uses variable-length packets, there is less overhead than traditional networking technologies.
