What Is Cell On Wheels (COW)?

There's nothing like going to a concert, getting your phone out to text your friends about how great the band is and then realizing you can't get any reception. You're stuck there, staring at your phone, watching the bars drop one by one as you try to send that message or what about driving from one place to another and suddenly realizing that you need directions? Your GPS doesn't work because your phone isn't connected to a network or you're in an area with no cell towers for miles around, so any calls you make, or texts you send will go straight into space. Well, there's a solution: Cell On Wheels (COW). It's a portable mobile cellular site that provides temporary network and wireless coverage—via vehicles such as trailers, vans and trucks—to areas affected by natural disasters or with large user volumes. It works just as well as any other cell tower would! It's hard to believe that the first portable cell phone was invented in 1973. At the time, it was considered a novelty and was only used by people who worked in remote areas and needed to be able to talk on the phone without having to set up an antenna. Now, almost everyone has one! They're so common that they're more like a piece of clothing than a piece of technology: you can't go outside without being attached to the internet at all times.
