What Is Cached Out?
You know the feeling: work late, come home and want to hear what your kids have to say, but before that, you must catch up on all the new memes posted online. Instead of staying up all night watching cat videos or other weird things people do with their spare time, try being "cached out" in a comfy chair instead. When someone is tired, they may be "cached out". It is prevalent in team environments where much collaborative work requires communication to "un-cache" someone. You'll need to allow them to rest and recharge their energy; in most cases, this slang is used in a light-hearted way, but if someone is consistently "cached out", it's best to help them with tasks that don't require as much communication to recover. The phrase "mental cache" describes that the human brain only has so much capacity for processing and storing information. When this capacity is reached, it can be "depleted" and need time to "refill" before using it. The phrase is widely used on social media and internet forums, often responding to a stressful event or something that causes anxiety. It also describes a form of "coping" used to deal with anxiety or stress. It is commonly used as a hashtag on social media to show that a particular word or phrase is connected to a stressful situation. Cached Out is a web developer's phrase that means the same as "cashed out." It describes the state of a computer or cellphone running out of memory and unable to process further inputs. The term has become so common that it appears in conversations outside tech circles; even people unfamiliar with technology will use it. In short, if you hear someone say your phone is "cached out," they don't mean it. They're just using a funny way of saying that it's full of apps and there's no more space for new ones.
