What Is Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)?
Artificial intelligence is the future; we're all just living in it. But what is artificial intelligence, really? When you think about AI, you probably imagine a robot that looks like a human, or maybe even a robot that can pass for human in every way except for its lack of empathy. That's called strong artificial intelligence, and it's not just science fiction — researchers are working on it right now. However, there is another sort of artificial intelligence that is more essential than strong AI: AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). In contrast to a more specialised or narrower sort of employment, general artificial intelligence is an artificial intelligence that can execute a variety of activities well. The artificial intelligence of different kinds are distinguished from each other—'strong artificial intelligence or 'full artificial intelligence are also terms for broader artificial intelligence objectives. The Turing test is a staple of the artificial intelligence debate, but it's also an example of why the topic is so hard to pin down. The Turing test was developed in the 20th century by Alan Turing, who had a hand in breaking German codes during World War II and is widely considered one of the early pioneers of computer science. The test asks if a machine can fool a human into thinking they are communicating with another human when they are communicating with a machine. The question of whether or not machines can become intelligent has been debated since then—but it's still not clear what it means for something to be intelligent. Is it enough for an AI program to complete tasks that humans do? Or does it need self-awareness? So what does this mean? Well, it means that when you're talking about AI with your friends (or coworkers), make sure you know what kind of AI they're talking about before you get carried away with your plans for world domination!
