What Is Virtualization-Aware Network (VM-Aware Network)?
Imagine a world where you can have your cake and eat it too. A world where you can move your virtual machines from one cloud storage provider to another without worrying about access or security issues. That's what a VM-aware network does. It's a computer network that uses the ability of network switches, which are responsible for providing the initial switching layer for managing virtual machines (VM). VM-aware networks can give VMs mobility or migration capabilities between networks or cloud storage providers across the virtual environment. It helps in configuration and migration while considering potential access and security issues. Why? Well, it's all about the VMs! VMs are taking over the world. They're everywhere and responsible for providing us with mobile phones that we can take anywhere without worrying about losing them. They've also changed how we think about computers and what they can do. With the advent of cloud computing, many people now use more than one device at a time—a laptop for work, a smartphone for personal use—and this requires mobility between different networks or even different cloud storage providers across the virtual environment. Put: if you want your VM-aware network to handle mobility (or migration) capabilities between networks or other cloud storage providers across the virtual environment. As well as configuration and access issues, you must ensure that your network switches are VM-aware! The best way to handle your data center's VLANs is to not control them. While administrators are responsible for setting up the network without a VM-aware network, they often lack awareness of VMs and unintentionally create potential threats to security and transfer issues within virtualized environments. It can add up quickly as you scale up your data center, as it does in large enterprises. VM-aware networking removes this burden from administrators by automating the creation of VLANs based on the presence of virtual machines on each port. It allows your team to focus on more important tasks—like finding out where that chili went!
