What Is Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP)?
Welcome to the world of wireless Internet service providers (WISPs). If you're reading this, it's likely because you've just realized that your ISP is more than a little bit outdated, and you need something more cutting-edge. We're here to help! A WISP is an ISP that uses wireless connections rather than wires or cables to connect users to their servers. Instead of sitting at home waiting for your relationship to load, you can go into the world and still get online. Have you ever been in a situation with no connection, and you're like, "I wish I had my Wi-Fi"? No? You're not alone. Do you know that there are different Wi-Fi? The first type of Wi-Fi is 802.11b, which uses the 2.4 GHz spectrum band frequency to send data back and forth between devices. Most people are familiar with this type of Wi-Fi: it's what your phone uses when connecting to a router in your house. The second type of Wi-Fi is 802.11a/g/n, which uses both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to send data back and forth between devices, and it can carry more information than 802.11b can because it operates on two different bands at once! That means better video streaming and faster downloads for everyone! What if you want even more speed? Well, then, we have something for you—802.11ac! It operates on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands like 802.11a/g/n but also works at much higher speeds than any other type of Wi. The beauty of a WISP is that it doesn't matter where you are—you'll still be connected! If you live in a rural area without access to other forms of connectivity, maybe Google Fiber isn't coming anytime soon. If there's even one cell tower near your home, then a WISP could be right up your alley!
