What Is Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA)?

TechDogs Avatar

Windows Genuine Advantage (or WGA) acts as a guard for your computer's operating system. Its job is to detect whether or not the version of Windows you're using is illegally downloaded. #WindowsGenuineAdvantage #WGA #OperatingSystem WGA performs an "ID" check on your operating system, similar to how a security guard verifies your identification at the door. To accomplish this, it communicates with Microsoft's servers to gather information about your computer and compares it to a list of legitimate Windows installations. Once WGA has confirmed that your system is secure, you can proceed. But if Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) determines that your installation of Windows is not genuine, it will restrict your ability to use specific components of the OS. That way, only authorized users can use Windows, safeguarding Microsoft's intellectual property. #Validation #PiratedSoftware Microsoft created WGA in 2006 to prevent software piracy and provide users with the most up-to-date protection patches. Some features, such as security updates and support, are only available for specific versions of Windows, such as Windows XP or Windows Vista. Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) has been deprecated since 2013, having been succeeded by Windows Activation Technologies (WAT), which employs a different validation strategy. A valid Windows license is still required to access some features, such as Windows Update and Microsoft Security Essentials. #WindowsActivationTechnologies #WindowsUpdate #SecurityUpdates Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is a security guard for your computer's OS. It is responsible for determining whether or not the Windows installation on your computer is genuine by communicating with Microsoft's servers and comparing the information you provide with a list of legitimate Windows licenses. Once WGA has confirmed that your system is secure, you can proceed. If WGA determines that your Windows installation is not official, it will place barriers in your way and prevent you from accessing some functions. Windows Genuine Advantage was released in 2006, but Windows Activation Technologies have replaced it.
