What Is VMware ESXi Server?
If you're wondering what a hypervisor is, it's an operating system that allows virtual machines, appliances and containers to run smoothly and efficiently on the same physical server. And we know what you're thinking: "What does an operating system have to do with my data center?" Well, a lot. Because if you've got a bunch of different machines running at once—and especially if those machines are running other applications—then this can make it difficult for your IT team to manage everything. That's where VMware ESXi Server comes in! This bare-metal hypervisor helps your IT team keep track of all the different servers and their respective applications, so they can deploy new software quickly and easily without worrying about compatibility issues across platforms. In the world of VMware, ESXi is essential in one of the two core components of vSphere, VMware's most popular management system for containers and virtual machines (VMs). A VMkernel manages ESXi servers (based on the Linux kernel) installed directly on a local disk in the host machine. Whenever a VMkernel requests resources from an application or VM, the seed presents the request to the host's physical hardware for fulfillment.ESXi is also known as "the hypervisor" because it runs directly on top of a physical server's hardware. It allows access to that server's resources, including processor time, memory space and input/output devices like hard drives or video cards. Are you simply one of those people who loves to live and lives to work? If so, you might be interested in VMware's ESXi. This virtualization platform targets enterprise organizations, small businesses and individual users. Enterprise licenses can be obtained as part of a paid vSphere edition. Installation requires a host with at least two CPUs and a minimum of 4 GB of physical RAM.
