What Is Video Telepresence?
It's hard to believe we've been discussing video telepresence for decades. Only yesterday, we were starting to get our heads around what it could do, and now it's everywhere! Yes literally every where! The concept of "telepresence" has been around for a long time. It's the idea that you can simulate a face-to-face experience through advanced technology. While it may seem like telepresence is still in its infancy, that's not entirely true. We have had the best technology for quite some time now. It's just long to understand how best to use it. Video telepresence is not an entirely new concept; we can trace it back to the 1920s! In 1926, there was a demonstration at Bell Telephone Laboratories where visitors could see each other over telephone lines using two-way cameras and projectors. This demonstration was called "Picturephone."The first public demonstration of Picturephone took place at the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. The system allowed users to contact one another from anywhere worldwide and see each other on television screens via live video feeds from their homes or offices! Unfortunately, Some of the most well-known telepresence examples include Google Hangouts, Skype, Zoom, Vidyo, and Facetime. One advantage of the platforms is that they can bring people worldwide together for discussions.; additionally, these platforms can help people with disabilities or those who may not be able to travel due to work or other obligations to be part of a meeting. Many of these platforms allow for screen sharing, which can be helpful for teaching purposes. We all know how technology is a massive part of our lives. What if it could be even bigger? That's the idea behind video telepresence, which ensures it is as rich and immersive as possible.
