What Is Velocity?

Velocity is a big data object that can measure the speed of an organization's data infrastructure and architecture. It's what happens when you combine a data infrastructure and management process. So, what does it mean? Velocity is about ensuring that your website or application responds quickly and your transaction execution time is as fast as possible. And your data analysis is done promptly so you can make quick decisions based on the information you receive from your data stores. It's also important to note that Velocity is directly related to the entire data infrastructure and architecture in managing and delivering data to recipients as quickly as possible. Velocity tells us how quickly our data volume is increasing—how quickly new pieces of information are being added daily. It also tells us if we're adding more content faster than before (and if that's a good thing). Variety tells us what kind of information we're adding. Does it have any metadata attached to it? How many different types of data are there? And finally, Volume tells us how big our extensive data set is—how much total storage space the whole thing takes up on disk drives, in-memory caches, or wherever else we store it (if anywhere).
