It can also be used as an optimization mechanism to minimize the execution time of a set of processes. In priority scheduling, each function is assigned a priority level. The higher the number, the higher the priority. Processes with higher priorities are executed before those with lower precedence. An example of a general-priority scheduling algorithm is the shortest-job-first algorithm. The best way to understand priority scheduling is to imagine a restaurant where the chefs have decided that they're going to cook all the food at once and then serve it as it comes out.
