What Is Uplink?
What's that? A communication link between an earth terminal and a satellite? I thought you said a "link" connects two or more things. Well, yes, that's true. The uplink connects the Earth terminal and the satellite, so it's like an extension cord for your phone. Do you know how your cable always gets tangled up and knotted after using it for a while? If you have an extension cord, you can unplug from one end, plug into the other, and voila! You're good to go again. So now You're probably familiar with the term "uplink." It's used in telecommunications, including cellular networks and computer networks. These contexts refer to communication from a lesser station to a more significant portion of the network. It can also use in an economic context to indicate that the interest rate on loan is higher than the rate offered on savings accounts or that the value of a stock is lower than the value of the benchmark index. In computer science, convergence refers to methods reaching a stable state after a change in inputs. In electrical engineering, convergence refers to the property of a circuit whereby input signals are amplified to a fixed level. To uplink is to send data up toward a satellite. If you use a satellite phone, your call from the earth-bound terminal to the satellite is an uplink. Suppose you're using a satellite internet connection. When your computer connects to the internet via its uplink to a satellite dish and not through its regular terrestrial connection, that's an uplink. Uplink is a term used in computer networking to describe data sent from an edge terminal or node to the network core. You may also hear it called an upstream connection. Uplinking is sometimes called uploading, and downloading is sometimes called downloading.
