What Is Undocumented Feature?

Often you may encounter a feature in an application or software which needs to be documented. It is called an undocumented feature. Sometimes these features are left out of the manual for a good reason (such as stability issues). Still, sometimes they are dictated by the marketing department's decision to keep some things secret from end-users. These are difficult to test because various inputs could trigger them. If you push an undocumented feature, you may be trying to confirm whether it exists or works as expected. If you encounter an undocumented feature in your testing, you may be trying to verify whether or not you Can use it to execute malicious actions. Therefore, it is essential to test applications with various features to ensure they work as expected; additionally, it is necessary to keep track of undocumented features and changes, especially when they are considered bugs. Other undocumented features might be proof of concept, something a developer wanted to try but needed help to justify spending time on from a business perspective. Sometimes these can be useful to end-users, such as access to an advanced setting that might only be useful for some users but might be helpful for a select few. There are a few undocumented features in Microsoft Word. They are not relevant and are done more on purpose to confuse people. One such example is the ball game found in Word 97. It may not work on other versions of Word but it still serves no purpose. The apparent features are documented in the manuals. In addition to these and other well-known features, some programs contain undocumented features that were not written or were considered too insignificant to warrant description. These undocumented features may be more beneficial than some of the better-known ones.
