What Is Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS)?
Once upon a time, there was a server called RRAS (that's short for Routing and Remote Access Service). It's like having a little router inside your server so you can route packets through it! The (RRAS) is a suite of network services in the Windows Server family that enables a server to perform the services of a conventional router. RRAS also includes an application programming interface that facilitates the development of applications and processes for administering network services. RRAS also includes VPN support, allowing users to connect to remote networks across the Internet as if they were directly related to those networks. VPN provides secure communication between remote users and their corporate intranets without requiring users to dial into the corporate network over the Internet. The VPN service supports client-server and peer-to-peer connections using L2TP or PPTP protocols. In addition, the VPN service supports SSTP for Windows 7 clients, allowing them to connect over SSL-encrypted HTTP tunnels. Because we're all about networking, we have a special place in our hearts for Windows Server. That's why we're so excited about RRAS, or Routing and Remote Access Service. This software is a virtual/software router that transforms your Windows Server into a full-blown network gateway. The best part? Your domain controller can centrally administer it, so you don't have to worry about setting up a separate server just for routing, which the server domain controller can centrally issue. Do you know what's better than being able to access the Internet? Being able to access the Internet from anywhere and that's what we can do for you with our Remote Recess Access Service (RRAS). We'll give you a VPN connection that lets you connect with your internal network anywhere, any time—whether over the Internet or dial-up services. The choice is yours!
