What Is Network Bottleneck?
Network bottlenecks are like the worst kind of traffic jam. There is enough space to drive. It's just that everyone else is moving so fast that they can't stop at the red light. A bottleneck is when you have data coming, but your network can't handle all that data simultaneously. It's like trying to run a bunch of apps on your phone, but it's too slow and keeps crashing, or when you're trying to get a video stream from Netflix, it keeps pausing and buffering. The good news is that can fix bottlenecks can fix bottlenecks! You need to ensure you have enough bandwidth for all your stuff. The term "network bottleneck" refers to a discrete condition in which data flow is limited by computer or network resources. Data flow is controlled according to the bandwidth of various system resources. Suppose the system working on a network delivers a higher volume of data than what is supported by the existing capacity of the network. In that case, a network bottleneck will occur. For example, suppose you're trying to download two files simultaneously, one at 1Mb/s and another at 10Mb/s. In that case, you'll experience a significant delay when it comes time for them both to transfer over your 100Mb/s connection. This delay will occur because your internet connection only has room for 100Mb/s of data. If more than that attempt come through at once, it will cause some slowdown or delay in communication. A bottleneck is when your system is getting backed up, and you can't get through. Think of a bottleneck as a traffic jam on the highway. When two lanes go in opposite directions, but only one is passable, you're in for a long wait. When your system is bottlenecking, you're waiting for data to transfer through narrow pipes at maximum speed, but the lines are complete and can't accommodate more data.
