What Is NetRexx?
NetRexx is like Java's little sister. She's got the same basic skills, but she knows how to have a little fun and keep things light in the process. That's why NetRexx has become so popular with programmers and app developers. It's easy to learn, fast and can be used for scripting and programming. If you're new to coding, NetRexx might be a good choice for you because of its ease of use. Even if you've been coding for years (and are tired of Java), NetRexx is still worth checking out. NetRexx is a product of the Rexx family tree, which has been growing for over 30 years. It was first developed in the late 1980s by IBM and was called Object Rexx. In the early 1990s, IBM released NetRexx as an open-source language, and it quickly became popular with those who work in IBM's Rational Software tools. NetRexx is inspired by both Java and Object Rexx, which makes it easy to learn if you already know one or both of these languages. It combines the ease of use found in Rexx with the robust portability of Java, inheriting from its forefather's object-oriented features and static typing. NetRexx also uses Java's exception-handling capabilities to make programming easier. NetRexx is much like Java, but it's faster and more concise. Java is just like NetRexx source: It's all about the lexical tokens and keystrokes. While Java requires 30 percent more permits and 20 percent more keystrokes than NetRexx to do the same thing, NetRexx can be compiled into a standalone executable or even pure Java class files without any need for a Java compiler at all. So, if you're peeking for a language that gets straight to the point and doesn't waste time with unnecessary words or characters, then NetRexx may be perfect!
