What Is Layer Two Forwarding (L2F)?
L2F is like PPTP, but with a little more chill. In the same way, PPTP uses dial-up connections between two computers to transport data securely. L2F does the same thing with virtual networks. It's like being at home and connecting to the Internet through your landline—except you're doing it through a virtual network instead of a physical one. In this way, L2F is similar to PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol). It uses dial-up connections between two computers to transport data securely. However, it differs from PPP because it uses virtual networks instead of physical ones. L2F is a Cisco protocol for secure data packet transport using virtual dial-up networks. L2F and the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), created by the Microsoft-led PPTP Forum, are similar in functionality. L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol, RFC 2661) defines L2F. Work must be accomplished, no matter what. Your boss, however, has a habit of telling you to complete tasks at home yet neglecting to provide you with the password. You've tried to tell him that he cannot simply expect you to meet all your work on his computer, but he doesn't listen. What do you do? You could try using your laptop, but he'll probably find a way to make that problematic too—maybe by throwing it out the window when no one's looking.
