What Is Just Enough Operating System (JeOS)?

The Just Enough Operating System (Short for JeOS) concept has been around for a while now, but it's only recently that it's really begun to gain traction in the tech world. The idea behind JeOS is simple: instead of installing a full version of an operating system on a device, you install just enough of one to run on that device. It's a bit like getting a hamburger without the bun—you're still getting all the meat and toppings you want, but you're saving yourself some carbs (and calories!). It might sound like an unnecessary step, but it can make your device run faster and smoother because there aren't any unnecessary programs slowing down the search for files or taking up space. Plus, with JeOS technology, you only have to download one program instead of multiple ones like traditional OS technology—saving time and energy! JeOS designs often correspond to a virtual appliance method, where a virtual machine (VM) image runs on a given platform. Some believe the open-source operating system is the best way to go. It's a good idea but not always the best option. Open-source operating systems are usually the best choice for JeOS development because they have much support from developers and users alike. Still, they are not always appropriate for all situations.
