What Is Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR)?
The world of handwriting, as we know it, is changing. Yes, it definitly is! Intelligent character recognition (ICR) is a computer-based interpretation of handwritten or printed characters so that they can be transcribed into a standardized format that can be recognized and understood by a computer. This technology has been around for decades but has only become sophisticated enough to be used in everyday life. ICR was developed in the 1970s and 80s but could have been more accurate. It could only recognize simple characters like letters, numbers and punctuation marks because it had no context for how those characters were supposed to look. As technology advanced, Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) became more accurate and versatile in recognizing handwriting or printed text from many different languages worldwide. Recent advances in artificial intelligence have also helped improve accuracy rates even further! When writing something down, it's usually a good idea to do it with a pen or pencil. What if you want to ensure that what you wrote is correct? You'd need some way of reading your handwriting—and that's where scanners come in! Scanners are the most common input device for characters in written, nondigital form—they take information from physical objects like paper and convert it into digital data. The process is often followed by a confirmation process based on a built-in dictionary that suggests matches closest to the entered characters. The ICR technology is the future of data entry. Scanning a document and having the computer recognize it as text is much faster than entering characters manually, which means you can achieve high accuracy in a shorter period. This equates to a higher degree of productivity for your business, which in turn helps you meet deadlines and keep costs down.
