What Is Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)?
IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization for advancing technology, backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. They are engineers, computer scientists, educators, researchers, managers, technicians and many others who share one thing in common: they are committed to making the world a better place through technology. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a global association working to develop, implement, and maintain technology-centered products and services. The IEEE works with its members and industry members to create standards for electrical and electronic systems engineering practices, including those related to communication systems. The organization also publishes several periodicals, including the IEEE Spectrum magazine. In addition to these publications and standards, the IEEE also offers conferences on various topics related to electrical engineering, such as robotics, wireless communication, signal processing, semiconductor manufacturing techniques and integrated circuit design principles. The IEEE was founded in 1884 as a small group of men gathered in New York City to discuss the new field of electricity. Their first goal was to create an organization that would provide standards for the burgeoning field of electrical engineering. Since then, it has grown into one of the most influential organizations in the world, with more than 400,000 members from 160 countries working in over 300 branches across all 50 states and internationally. IEEE is divided into seven sections: Computer, Communications and Power Technologies; Education; Energy Technologies; Engineering Management; Information Theory, Systems and Technology; Management Information Systems; Manufacturing Automation, Quality and Reliability Engineering. These sections are further subdivided into over 400 technical subcommittees that develop standards in their respective fields of expertise. The IEEE is an organization that helps set standards for computer networking and its suite of services. They also maintain thousands of student and professional chapters globally, have numerous focus societies, and sponsor regular conferences and seminars.
