What Is Hidden File?
Hidden files are like the superheroes of your computer. They're there to protect you but invisible to the bad guys. When turned on, hidden files are invisible when you look at your computer's directory structure or explore files and folders. This means that if someone wants to destroy your data or mess with your system, they'll be forced to hunt for it themselves—and even then, they might not know where everything is! Utilities often use hidden files to preserve their state or preferences when you reboot your computer. For example, if you've been using a program that makes many changes every time you open it up, a hidden file can help it remember what those changes were so that when you open it again next time, all those changes will still be there (otherwise known as "state"). Hiding files is a great way to keep things away from prying eyes. After all, if you don't want people to see something, you should make it harder for them to find it! But what if you DO want someone to see a secret file? Or you're unsure which files are important enough to hide. That's where software comes in. Many programs make hiding and unhiding files easy—and they're all free! Regarding hiding files and directories, there are two main types: those that hide files and directories that already exist on your computer and those that create new ones by creating dummy files. The latter type is sometimes called "stealth mode" because it makes the hidden file invisible until you enter a password or passphrase into which it will be decrypted. Hiding files is a fantastic way to keep your computer neat. You can protect your sensitive documents from prying eyes or keep all your embarrassing photos and videos out of sight with hidden files. The best way to hide files is using the ResEdit utility on Macs or the particular hidden attribute in other operating systems. However, using the Microsoft operating system, you can use a program like Folder Guard to help you manage your hidden files!
