What Is Group Policy (GP)?
Group Policy (GP) is like a mother always trying to set you up with the right person—and you hate it. Group Policy is like your mom: she knows best, but you don't always listen. She knows how to make things work, but sometimes you want to do things your way. She cares about you and your health, but sometimes she drives you crazy. Group Policy is like your dad: he's always been there for you and won't let anyone else mess with you or take your stuff away from him. He protects his kids from all kinds of threats—even the ones that seem small at first glance—and he does it with an iron fist in a velvet glove: no one wants to mess with him when he gets angry! Group Policy is a tool in Microsoft Windows NT networking systems for controlling user status and activities on a particular network's computers. Through the Active Directory, Group Policy applications set standards for different types of user events and user settings. These rules are called Group Policies, and they're applied to individual computers or network components using a system of policy refreshes that distribute them across the network. Different types of Group Policy include local Group Policy, site-wide Group Policies, Group Policy applied to a domain, and Group policies applied to an organizational unit.
