What Is Gatekeeper Transaction Message Protocol (GKTMP)?
In the beginning, there was a call. The phone called Cisco's Gatekeeper, but all it got in return was a busy signal because it was out of order. So the phone decided to find another way to get through, and that's how Gatekeeper Transaction Message Protocol (GKTMP) was born. Cisco IOS Gatekeeper uses the Gatekeeper Transaction Message Protocol (GKTMP) to communicate with a server that provides enhanced call routing and address translation services. The Cisco IOS Gatekeeper uses GKTMP to determine which server should receive calls for a dialed number. It also enables a Cisco IOS Gatekeeper to retrieve additional information about its configuration and status from a server. The RAS protocol enables gatekeepers to transfer information about the quality of each Gatekeeper and the gateways connected to it. Porters use GKTMP messages to initiate and receive information about the status of gateways. Gatekeepers can send GKTMP messages to start a session with another gatekeeper. These gateways can be used on any software or hardware that supports AMQP. It will enable gatekeepers to receive notifications from other systems to alert them of any issues. There are three different categories of messages that these gateways can send. The first is a message to confirm that a transaction has been sent successfully to the data store. The second is a message that guarantees a transaction has failed. The third is a message that confirms that a transaction has been canceled. Any company with a distributed data architecture can use these gateways. AMQP is a protocol for message exchange between applications and causes it for various purposes, such as message queuing, distributed concurrency, and remote procedure calls. AMQP has a few key features that make it suitable for IoT gateways. First, it is a protocol for message exchange, and gateways are the entry points for communication with devices. Second, it is message-based, making it suitable for handling variable-length messages.
