What Is Full Packaged Product (FPP)?
In the early days of the software business, a fully packaged product was the most common type of product sold. You know, those massive cases that contain a computer and a user guide. Then something happened: people discovered they no longer needed discs and instructions because they could download things online. It was a big deal because it meant they were no longer required to buy them. As a result, most software is now provided as a service rather than in a tangible format, such as a book or a drive. Due to this, we no longer refer to it as "packaged software" but rather as "software as a service." It is because when we talk about "software as a service," we refer to everything that comes with purchasing software, including the source code, the user manual, and even the actual box. When you purchase a product that comes in a complete package, you will receive all of the necessary applications in a single location. It's just like the good old days when you used to buy a game cartridge, take it home, and place it into your Nintendo machine, or when you used to buy a CD and put it into your computer. You don't have to think about downloading upgrades or anything else because you can use it immediately. The truth is, those days are over now. It's not just that we don't need CD players anymore; most people don't even want to go through the trouble of purchasing products that come in their original packaging anymore. We want our software to be simple to use from any location at any time without the need to install anything, pay for updates, or keep an account of anything else because we are occupied with our lives, families, and other responsibilities. Therefore, people are more likely to choose cloud-delivered solutions, like they obtain their music on Spotify or their videos on Netflix, rather than purchasing the complete packaged product on the store display or in an online store.
