What Is Edge Computing?
The lifeblood of every business is data. We all know very well about that, well, don't we? It's everywhere, but sometimes it takes work to get from Point A to Point B. Well, we know how difficult and impossible a task is to do so, don't we? Data has to travel from place to place, sometimes through a network, sometimes through a server, and sometimes just stored in your head! Well, that one, indeed, is correct. But can anyone help solve all the problems we just read about? Well, then you go on! There are ways around those pesky communication delays, including edge computing. The data is often processed on the originating device itself, and only the most essential data is transferred off the machine. Edge computing processes data as close to its source to reduce network latency by minimizing communication time between clients and servers. In an edge computing network architecture, data traditionally sent to a central data center or remote cloud service is processed locally. It is a frequent and widespread means of enhancing networks to promote efficiency and more capable security for business systems. So what exactly is edge computing? It's basically when data processing occurs at the edges of an organization's network instead of at the core, typically where data processing takes place in traditional data centers. Edge computing can be used for many things: content delivery, video streaming, cloud gaming, IoT (Internet of Things) applications, and even smart cities.
